Thought-Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship

Scripture- “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,  neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

Insight: In day 14 of learning to apply biblical principles to our daily life, what we are referring to as Practical Christianity, let’s consider what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus. To non-believers this whole concept that you can have a close, intimate relationship with someone who has been dead for over 2,000 years is lunacy. When you try to explain to them that He isn’t dead at all, in fact He is more alive today than ever, He is risen and sits on His throne at the right side of the Father, and we have direct access to him through the Holy Spirt which He gave to us as a parting gift when He ascended from earth, they most likely think we are from MARS! But as believers, we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is true. Why? Because we have experienced this first hand.  What does it mean to us?  He is my best friend, my mentor, my strength, my comforter, my teacher, my defender and my redeemer. There is no one else in my life that I could ever say that about, nor will there ever be. Christ is the one who sacrificed everything He was so that I could be free from everything that I am. He was Holy, I am marred by sin. He was humble, I am mostly proud. He was strong, I am weak. He was determined, I am easily distracted. He died, so that I could live. What else can I say?

It is the personal relationship of knowing Christ and knowing that He knows me that makes me want to live my life for Him. Although I fail many times every day, it doesn’t take away from my desire to seek him with all my heart, soul, mind and strength. When I am alone, he is always by my side. When I am maligned because of my relationship with Him, I draw strength from the fact that He was also rejected. As the Bible verse above says, nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. I think most of all, Jesus gives us the power to go forth when the wind is in our face and the storms are all around us. John 16:33 puts it into clear language when it says “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” It is the personal relationship of knowing Christ, and knowing that He knows me that makes me want to live my life for Him. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” There are very few things in this world that I find truly worth fighting for. In fact the list would be quite small; my family, my Country and my God. It is the depth of the personal relationship that is available to us all who call on the name of Jesus that changes everything. Without that relationship, Christianity is just another religion. But because of that relationship, it is so much more!

Prayer: Father God, thank you that we get to know your Son Jesus in a personal way through the gift of the Holy Spirit! We can’t imagine our life without Him by our side, leading us, comforting us, teaching us, guiding us. We thank You for this amazing privilege. Amen!
