Weather report from heaven: Sunny and bright with an abundance of light, and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture- “On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: king of kings and lord of lords.”- Revelation 19:16

Insight: One of the things that I find very helpful in my faith walk is to look back at the Ancient names that the Jewish people had for God and apply it to my current situation. This reminds me that God has many different attributes and characteristics that are meant to provide the help we need in our life journey for exactly what we need, when we exactly need it. God is bigger than our wildest imaginations. He is Omniscient ( All Knowing ) Omnipotent ( All Powerful ) and Omni-Present. ( Everywhere at once ) He cannot be, nor should He be, shrunk down to our life size box we try to fit Him into so we can better understand Him. However, He does want us to know Him and His ways in a most personable manner.

Tonight we will consider the name Adonai. Adonai is a name for God that denotes that He is the Lord over all. He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords, He reigns forever. Therefore you find safety in Him and Him alone. I thought this name was particularly meaningful for today, especially in America, for all of those who are so upset with the election results. We want in our flesh to feel like we are righteous in voting for our political choices, and we can be quite upset when the results fail to meet our expectations. But when we keep in mind the name of God as Adonai, we quickly remember that He alone is in charge of all things, He works all things for His purposes, and His timing is very different than ours, as 2 Peter 3:8 says “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” This verse helps us to keep things in perspective and know that God is in control, and we are not. He is the ”King of kings and the Lord of lords,” as Revelation 19:16 says. He raises up nations, and He brings them down, all in His timing and for His purposes. So no matter if you’re giddy about the election results or despondent, keep in mind that Adonai is the One who is really in charge!

Prayer: God we thank You that you are Adonai and that You are sovereign over all things. We praise You that You are in control, and nothing can ever thwart your plans. Certainly, no election results are a surprise to you. We pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!
