Weather report from heaven: Sunny and bright with an abundance of light, and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture- “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”- Psalm 23:1-4

Insight: One of the things that I find very helpful in my faith walk is to look back at the Ancient names that the Jewish people had for God and apply it to my current situation. This reminds me that God has many different attributes and characteristics that are meant to provide the help we need in our life journey for exactly what we need, when we exactly need it. God is bigger than our wildest imaginations. He is Omniscient ( All Knowing ) Omnipotent ( All Powerful ) and Omni-Present. ( Everywhere at once ) He cannot be, nor should He be, shrunk down to our life size box we try to fit Him into so we can better understand Him. However, He does want us to know Him and His ways in a most personable manner.

Tonight we will consider the name Yahweh-Rohi. Yahweh-Rohi means “The Lord my shepherd.” He cares for you, the way a shepherd tends his sheep. He cares for you and leads you to still waters and green pastures. Sheep are not very smart, and without a good Shepherd, they are extremely vulnerable and will most likely make terrible decisions that can lead to perilous situations. The Shepherd’s main job is to care for and look after the Sheep, protecting from all sorts of threats. That is what God does for us. If we follow Him, and listen to His voice, and read His word, and seek Him above all else, then hopefully His wisdom will be imparted on us, and will make better decisions in our lives. Of course, many times we will fall and falter, but our Good Shepherd will help us up and get us back on our feet. He will “lead us beside quiet waters and refresh our souls.” Praise God that You are Yahweh- Rohi, our Good Shepherd.

Prayer: God we thank You that you are Yahweh- Rohi and that You look out for us, your little flock of Sheep, who are so prone to wandering off, just like real Sheep, but You are always there to guide us and care for us. We praise You Lord Jesus! Amen!
