Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture“Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.”- 2 Timothy 2:10

Thought of the day-  CS Lewis once famously said that unless something has eternal worth,it is eternally worthless. This is a great way to measure the impact of our decision making. Does what we do carry on to eternity to make an impact for God’s Kingdom that will last forever? Certainly, this is not how most people think when making decisions in today’s culture. Most people make decisions based on financial profit, comfort or convenience for the here and now. Many would look at you cross eyed if you explained that you make decisions based on eternal impact. But 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 says that eternity should be a focus of all believers when it says, “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

I love the scripture within verse 18 above that says “what is seen is temporary but what is unseen is eternal.” It is kind of the main point of what is required to live by faith. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says simply “For we live by faith, not by sight.” When it comes to how we view money, Matthew 6:19 -20 implores us to also take the long view when it says, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” Wisdom is found when we move money from a temporary status to an eternal, fixed status. When our finances are aligned with Kingdom causes, when we give to those causes, we don’t lose money, we simply move money to a permanent and eternal bank that can never spoil or fade. I certainly can’t say that about my earthly investments which many times spoil and fade, or simply fly away. They are also a source of great stress and distraction in my life. So it is necessary for us to look at all aspects of our lives and see how much we think about eternity. Do our decisions as believers represent our eternal destiny? If not, we need to make changes to how we make our decisions that take into account our eternal destination. After all, we will spend a lot more time on that side of the equation then we will on this one!
