Weather report from heaven: Sunny and bright with an abundance of light, and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture- “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,  for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22-23 

Insight: This week as we carve time out of our manic schedules to hopefully pause, reflect and find room to acknowledge all that we are thankful for in our lives, let’s maybe consider being thankful just because of how faithful God is and has always been to us. In fact, He is faithful to us even when we are not faithful towards Him, and often are downright rebellious in our attitude towards His place of moral authority in our life. Similar to how teenagers often treat their parents who are trying to look out for their own good is how we tend to treat God; Like a hindrance and a cosmic buzz kill rather than as the all loving and powerful God who only wants what is best for us. But God never treats us that way. He remains faithful even when we act like rebellious and petulant children. In fact, 2 Timothy 2:13 says “if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.”

 We should thank God simply because He is not like us. He is long suffering ( Jeremiah 15:15 ) slow to anger and abounding in love, compassionate and gracious towards us when we least deserve it. It is who He is. Psalm 86:15 says “But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” That should cause us to be thankful in and of itself. God is faithful, we are not. Let us praise His Holy name and give genuine thanks that He is not like us. Give thanks to Him simply because He deserves it, for His love and faithfulness are more than we deserve it.  Psalm 117:1-2 says it best ”Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.”

Prayer: Father God we thank you that You are faithful even when we are not. Because your love for us never fails, we give thanks to You this week, for You alone our worthy of all of our praise. Amen!
