Scripture- “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”- Joshua 1:9
Insight: I firmly believe that we are all one courageous decision away from our destiny. We can be wrong many times, but if we get it right just one time we can find our destiny. So the question I have been pondering is how do we come to making that a reality in our life? How do we find our destiny? I read the writer’s advice and pondered it. It sounded so simple: “Always take the path that requires the most faith.” As a Christian, this makes perfect sense, but when you try to practically apply that to your own life, many obstacles rear their ugly heads. One of the biggest “traps” that keeps us from reaching our destiny is often requires us to think in a new way, and that usually requires us to leave our comfort zones and get into a place that really grows our faith. Our comfort zones can be a great inhibitor to reaching our true destiny. It leads to many questions being asked that can scare us like what will my friends and family think? Who will understand? How can I do this financially and still survive? Granted, all critical decisions take courage, and all require boldness. But sometimes the destiny that awaits on the other side seems so elusive it can make us afraid to even try. That’s why our true destiny is usually found on the other side of our biggest and most courageous decision.
What could this look like in your life or in mine? What courageous decisions can we make that will help us reach our destiny? How about leaving a relationship, a job or a career path that you know is not the right one for you but one in which you have grown comfortable? How about walking away from a lucrative job to chase a dream that has no guarantee of success? How about reporting abuse or misconduct to the authorities at risk of your whole world collapsing? What about forgoing a full scholarship at a University to train for the Olympics with no guarantee you would even make the team? What about fighting the powerful political structures that exist in the world because you believe so strongly in a cause, even if you lack the resources necessary to win the fight? These are just a few real-life examples of what bold and courageous decision making looks like. It is scary. It is all in. It is life changing and in my estimation, it is impossible without total trust in God and absolute abandonment to your own fears. So “be strong and courageous and do not be afraid, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:9 And your destiny most likely awaits you on the other side of your bold decision!
