Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture- “But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock,  I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God.  The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.” 1 Samuel 17:34-37

Insight: Everything in your past is preparing you for your future.  That’s a great mindset to have when you’re facing some big challenges in your life or preparing for something that seems too big for you. I think most people are familiar with the story of David and Goliath. It is the classic story of an underdog defeating all odds to overcome a giant in battle. We all are battling some giants in our life and a story like this can give us great comfort and hope. But I venture to say few are familiar with the backstory of what David was doing to prepare for this day when he would suddenly be thrust into the spotlight of defending the dignity of the God of Israel against a Philistine Giant. As a boy, he was fighting off lions and bears to defend his father’s flock of sheep. Good training for sure if you want to defeat a giant in battle. I am sure that in David’s eyes the Lion and Bear were much tougher foes than a mere mortal man, no matter his size. In any case, when David ran to the battlefield, it was with the confidence of knowing that his past had prepared him for his future destiny. That is how he gleaned the confidence to face the current challenge.

Sometimes our life can seem stuck in place, as I am sure it felt to David when he was tending to his father’s sheep. No one was noticing and he probably felt insignificant and lonely. But God doesn’t waste our past, instead He use it to prepare us for our future. The exact time and way God will use our life experiences is unknown, but that just increases the mystery and suspense. It causes our faith to grow as we wait upon the Lord to launch us into our destiny at just the right time. Nothing that has happened to us in our past is a mistake, but rather it has all been part of His master plan to prepare us for our future. Will you be ready when He calls you? Like David, I hope my heart is so aligned with the Lord that I run to the battle ground in whatever fight He may call me into. Relying on His strength and power is the sure fire way to achieve victory in whatever battle He has prepared for us.
