Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture“Return, Israel, to the Lord your God.  Your sins have been your downfall! Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to him: “Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer the fruit of our lips.”- Hosea 14:1-2

“And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the Lord has said, even among the survivors whom the Lord calls.”- Joel 2:32

Thought of the day- Is humanity simply unable to handle success? If you look throughout the pages of the Bible, the resounding answer seems to be yes. The patterns that present themselves are recurring and seem to be present throughout generations. The pattern is as simple to follow as this: People seek God, knowing they are not sufficient on their own to live life in a way that leads to happiness, peace and success. God hears their pleas for Him and He meets them where they are at with His overwhelming love and compassion. As they spend time with God, they begin to flourish and as God blesses them, they grow in abundance. At some future point, through deception and pride, they decide they are responsible for their success and they no longer need God, so they stop depending on Him. Being the Gentleman He is, He says ok have it your way. They go through very severe trials and lose the blessings He was providing with they were walking in His will. The pain gets extreme and in their sorrow, they repent and admit their need for Him and the cycle begins anew.

This pattern repeated itself throughout the Old Testament as the Nation of Israel would continually go through seasons of abundance as they walked with the Lord in obedience and  gratitude and then seasons of great pain and strife as they turned from the Lord to worship false gods and reaped the devastating consequences. I believe this same thing is happening today in America. Our Nation was founded on the Judeo-Christian principles established by our forefathers of reliance on God and dependence on His guidance. We flourished as a Nation when God was the center of our society. We grew more wealthy, prosperous and strong than any Nation in history. But in the 1960’s we started on a downward slope of removing God from His rightful place and we took Him out of our classrooms, our courtrooms, our boardrooms and our bedrooms. We decided we no longer needed God, we could do this all on our own. In pride and greed, we wanted to take credit for the prosperity He had blessed America with. How foolish we are. He didn’t move or change, we did. We kicked Him out. We are now reaping what we have sown. It is called chaos, anger and violence, and it is everywhere. Sin has invaded our land and we have allowed the enemy to devour us. Like in the Old Testament days, I believe God will bless us and heal us if we turn back to Him, repent of our sin and ask for His healing to be on our land. May 2 Chronicles 7:14 be our hymn as we seek His forgiveness before it is too late: “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
