Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.
Scripture- “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.”- 2 Peter 3:10
“For you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.”- 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3
Thought of the Day- We love countdowns in our media platforms. As soon as the Super Bowl ends, the screen starts telling us that there is only 98 days until the NFL Draft. We countdown the last minute until New Year’s. We countdown the top 25 most popular music videos of the year. Whatever the topic is, we sure like the countdown. But doesn’t it often lead to an anti-climatic feeling when the real event comes? I mean when you have been told each day for 97 straight days how much time until the actual draft happens you are exhausted and burned out from all the information that has been shared leading up to the actual daft itself. It has the impact of making us so anxious for the future, that we forget to enjoy today!
Well, the Bible is clear that there will be no such countdown taking place prior to Jesus’s return to the earth to rapture His Bride, the church. In both verses above, we hear the writer say Jesus will return like a thief in the night. In other words, we will already need to be prepared prior to His coming or we will be left behind. The Scriptures make it clear no one knows the exact time of His return, (Matthew 24:36), only that He will not pre-announce it. He tells us some things to look out for as signs of the time fast approaching and you can sure make a good case that we are seeing some of these signs right now. Matthew 24:8 refers to these as “birth pains” that precede the delivery of His people from the earth. Violence, lawlessness, plagues of locusts, famine, earthquakes, apostasy of the church are just a few of the signs He tells us to pay attention to throughout His Gospels. They appear to be present right now on the earth and increasing in intensity.
So the question that we must ask ourselves is will we be ready when Christ returns? Romans 10: 9 says “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Only those who have accepted Christ can know they will be ready when He comes. 2 Thessalonians 1: 7(b)-10 lets us know that when He comes, there will be no more time left on the clock. All Countdown’s will officially be over. Will you be ready? “This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.”
