Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture-  “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Insight: I love Memorial Day Weekend because as a Country it is a time in the United States where we pause to remember all of those who have fought for our freedom and paid the ultimate price to keep America free. We celebrate their courage and patriotism. We must never forget that freedom isn’t free at all, and in fact the cost is incalculable and paid for by the blood of our heroes both past and present who are willing to pay the ultimate price to keep us all free. It is important we never forget so many brave men and women who left families and dreams behind to defend us. Their legacy is kept alive by our remembrance.

In the same vein, we as Christians must always remember all God has done for us so that we can have the energy and the focus to persevere through the next challenge that is in front of us. We can gain strength for our current battles by remembering God’s faithfulness in the past and how He has never left us or forsaken us, as Hebrews 13:5 promises. Because when we remember God’s acts of loving kindness, strength and wisdom in the past it can remove the shackles of fear for the present and the future. It is important we pause to look back, so we can look forward with confidence. We have certainly given God countless reasons to walk away from us or abandon us, but He never has, and He never will. Therefore, we go forward knowing we are not alone, even when we may be lonely, because the same God that pulled us out of the fires of our past, will part the waters standing in front of us in the future. Remembering God’s past exploits on our behalf, is vital to growing and learning and discerning our path for the future. Stop and remember, because God is worth the praise. Just as our Soldier’s legacies are kept alive when we remember their sacrifices on behalf of freedom, so God is close to us when we remember all He has done to save us in our past. Happy Memorial Day to all, may we always remember and never forget all who deserve our honor and praise, and especially may God always be first in our hearts and minds as we remember His ultimate redemptive sacrifice through Jesus on the Cross of Calvary.

Prayer: Father God, thanks for the price you paid to save me from the penalty my sins deserved. I will never forget the lengths you went to in order to prove the depth of your love for me. Bless the families this day of all the men and women who also sacrificed so much in the name of peace and freedom. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
