Weather report from heaven: Sunny and bright with an abundance of light, and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture- “At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.  But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,  he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.’- Titus 3:3-7

Insight:   I love how our souls can be fed in a variety of ways, from reading God’s word, to praying, and through a friend’s encouragement or insight. However, one of my favorite ways to nourish my soul is through  song lyrics that give me great hope and put things into proper perspective. The simple act of worshiping the Lord is a mood elevator and I believe needs to be an everyday occurrence as a Christian. The fact is when we sing, when we pour out our praise to the Lord, we feel better. Today I heard one of my favorite Christian song’s lyrics that lifted my mood just in time and reset my focus on the strength, love and grace of our God.

The lyrics are from the song “No Longer Slaves,” by Bethel Music. This is a song of deliverance and freedom that the songwriters found in Christ Jesus and want to share with their listeners. It is a powerful song of freedom from fear of being enslaved to the things of this world that only lead to anxiety and pain. Let’s face it, we all have fears that raise their ugly head from time to time and we need to run to scripture and to worship the Lord to provide the antidote for those fears. Some of my favorite lyrics from this song go like this: “ You unravel me with a melody, you surround me with a song. Of deliverance from my enemies til all my fears are gone. I’m no longer a slave to fear, for I am a child of God. You split the Sea so I could walk right through it. My fears are drowned in perfect love. You rescued me so I could stand and sing. I am a child of God. Yes I am a child of God. Full of faith, yes I am a child of God.”

This song builds to a fevered pitch as the songwriter pours out his soul to the One who rescued him from all that had entangled him. We are all enslaved to something that is too big for us, and that only God can set us free from. It could be an addiction, a bad habit, a fearful and anxiety riddled life based on regrets of the past,  or worries of the future. Whatever it is for you is your unique struggle. But when you turn it over to God and feel His power to set you free from whatever it is that is enslaving you, all you can do is sing your gratitude and proclaim “I’m no longer a slave to fear, for I am a child of God.”

Prayer: Jesus, thank you that we are saved and set free from whatever enslaves us because of your great love, and that you died to give us eternal life. We are so glad that You call us children of God, yours forever. Amen!
