Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture- “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” -Hebrews 12:1-2

Insight: There’s 1440 minutes in a day. How many do you give to God? The thought of how many minutes out of 1440 each day we devote to prayer, meditation on Scripture and quiet time with the Lord is a great wake up call to how distracted we are. If I am being honest, the answer many times is I am very distracted. There should be nothing before our Lord, yet I struggle with distractions. Why do we get so distracted? The world tugs at us with things that are less significant but drain our time. Satan is always trying to keep us away from prayer time with the Lord as it is in that posture that God can do the most powerful things in and through us by revealing deep truths He needs us to learn. Our enemy has no response for when we are in one on one communion with God, so he will always try to distract us. The non-stop news cycle will seek our attention and drain our energy. The phone will ring, the kids will need something, the boss will have an urgent request. Try it and I am sure you will find the same things are true for you as they are for me.

At the end of the day, we need to be disciplined and methodical in our approach to carve out time with the Lord. Maybe at first it is only 5 minutes a day. But over time, we will crave more of Him because ultimately, He alone can satisfy the deepest yearnings of our soul. Sometimes I have days where I truly protect my time with God, and even 60 or 90 minutes seems too short. Other days, I am lucky to find 5 minutes. Those days never go as well as the days when I devote more time to Him. How about you? How much time are you giving the Lord each day? Wisdom comes from God alone and the Bible implores us to always seek wisdom. Proverbs 3:13-15 tells us that wisdom is the most valuable of all commodities: “Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.”  Count your minutes and see if there is more time you can give to God, so He in turn can give you more wisdom. Wisdom provides power and clarity to your life, and keeps you from wasting time on frivolous things. When you do give God more time, He will miraculously find ways for all the other activities you need to accomplish to still take place. In fact, it is like He creates even more time for you. Time spent with God is never wasted time. In fact, it is the best use of our time we could ever imagine. It is when we are most alive and most discerning and most powerful. Try it sometime yourself. You will be glad you did.
