Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.
Scripture- “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”- Matthew 11:28-30
Insight: I am tired! I am tired physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. How about you? 2020 has been the year of exhaustion. Constantly changing rules around Corona Virus itself has been exhausting with goal posts that are always being moved, kids being home instead of at school, non-stop political fighting, and a Country seemingly on the verge of a cultural civil war. Each day feels like a month, and each month like a year. Everything seems harder than it used to, and people are burned out. The endless stream of data and information we are bombarded with on a daily basis can leave us numb and ineffective. It is non-stop and it is draining. Our lives may seem busy, but we should not equate that with being productive. Everything can suffer if we are exhausted: Our relationships with our spouse, our kids, our family and friends, our co-workers and clients. When we are exhausted, we are generally not a bowl full of cherries to be around.
So, where do we turn for revitalization? There is only one source that I have found and that is Christ himself. When we bring our burdens to him, He takes them off of us and puts them on His large shoulders. He understands our pain and can offer us the hope and peace that provides rejuvenation. He is waiting for us to bring our tired bodies and souls to him in prayer, and to ask for his help. Satan will use things to distract us or make us feel good about being “busy.” Jesus will bring us the peace and contentment that comes from just being in his presence. He takes away our burdens and gives us rest for our bodies and souls. Make it a habit to unplug from all of the busyness and find strength in just being in His presence and surrendering all of your burdens to Him. It is not only our bodies that need rest, but also our souls. Remember, being still with Jesus is much better than being “busy” without Him.
