Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.
Scripture- ““Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”- Matthew 11:28-30
Insight: Today we continue our look at Jesus as the Great Physician and Healer, who alone is able to heal all aspects of our life. We know that at some point we will all require physical healing because of the fact we live in bodies that will eventually break down. In fact Paul refers to our bodies as tents ( 2 Peter 1:13 ) which is an apt description, because they are really just temporary housing stations for our souls, which are eternal in nature. Therefore, we should also look to Jesus to heal other areas of our lives that are broken besides just our physical bodies.
The main one that needs constant attention is our soul. Our souls get “weary and burdened, and they need rest,” as Matthew 11:28 above says. The rigors and worries of this life can sap us of our strength. Our fears can paralyze us if we are not careful. The pandemic that has hit the globe in the last year is a perfect example of why we need to turn to Jesus to find healing and rest, for his “yoke is easy and his burden is light.” In other words, we need a hope that is not subject to the wild fluctuations that can occur on this earth. We need stability and a hope that is not circumstantial. Only Jesus is the solid foundation on which our hope can stand and our soul can find the rest and healing it needs. Everything else is shifting sand. One of the things that weighs our soul down and creates a heavy burden is our fear of loss. Loss of possessions, loss of title or prestige, loss of job, loss of health. You name it, fear of loss can sap us and burden our souls. When we see all things as God’s, and He has eternity in mind for all things, we can loosen our grip on what is not ultimately ours to begin with. I have found this is a key to healing our soul and relieving our stress. God is a good and loving God and He has our best interest and eternity in mind. We can trust Him more than anything we might lose. I’ll end with a quote from Missionary Jim Elliot that I try to incorporate into my daily mindset because of the freedom and healing from fear and worry that it brings. He said “He is no fool who gives up what he can never keep to gain what he can never lose.” What an amazing quote and testimony of a man living free for Christ. Does your soul need healing? Are you clinging to things that won’t matter in eternity? Learn to bring it all to the foot of the Cross and ask Jesus to heal your soul and set you free!
Prayer: Jesus thank you that You are the One who can heal not only our bodies but also our souls. I ask for your healing power to constantly be close by my side and to remind me to not cling too tightly to things which are not mine to keep, things that burden our souls and leave us weary, but rather to focus on eternal fruits which will never spoil or fade. In Your name Jesus we pray. Amen!
