Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture-  “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”- John 14:26

Insight: As we continue our discussion about the many aspects of the Holy Spirit, today we will consider the teaching ability of the Holy Spirit and how it can equip us to learn what to do with our lives to honor God. The Spirit is our advocate in every situation we encounter to teach us how to respond. The Spirit is our helper that we use to navigate our way through life and to reveal to us the purpose for which we were created. Simply put, the Spirit is our best teacher, a compass that will keep us on the right path. There are many great Bible verses that speak to the Spirit’s role as a Teacher, also referred to as a Helper and our Advocate, like John 14:26 above that are worth out study time in order to understood these aspects of the Spirit. I really like the clarity that John 16:7 brings which says “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” In the Merriam- Webster Dictionary the word Advocate means “one who pleads the cause of another; one who defends or maintains a cause or proposal; or one who supports or promotes the interests of a cause or group”  It has helped me on many occasions to know that I have Jesus advocating for me, defending me, fighting for me. After all, who would you rather have on your side than Jesus? As Christians, we get the Advocate who is literally holding us together when our world seems to be falling apart. Just take a look at Colossians 1:15-17 to see what that looks like for us who believe: “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Not only is He our Advocate, but He is also teaching us all things through the Holy Spirit. John 14:26 above is a go to verse for us to understand the power He has to “teach us all things.” We can get information from a variety of sources in an instant, but to gain wisdom we need to be in close proximity to the greatest Teacher of all- the Holy Spirit that Jesus gave us to be able to live victoriously in this life and the one to come.

Prayer: Father God, thank you that you gave us who believe the Holy Spirit “to teach us all things.” We admit how much we need you, because on our own, we have a thimble full of knowledge in an Ocean full of information. Thank you for your wisdom through the Spirit that allows us to discern the right path for our feet. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
