Weather report from heaven: Sunny and bright with an abundance of light, and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture- “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”- Matthew 5:9

Insight: As we continue our series on Understanding The Times, today let’s consider in more detail the great hope we have as Christians because of the sufficiency, strength and power of Jesus Christ and the eternal nature of God’s Kingdom. This one little scripture from above gives us great insight into how we are to live as Christians during a time of great division upon the earth. We have spent a lot of time writing about how satan has infiltrated the global media as one of his names implies “prince of the air” ( Ephesians 2:1-2 ) to sow division and chaos which is plain to see all around us. Turn on any cable news channel and it is more like a Jerry Springer Show than a news channel. People are literally screaming at each other, their guests and anyone else they can get to come into their house of horror, where dissenting thought is not only not allowed, it is castigated. As the documentary Social Dilemma so aptly points out, us humans have become the products that various organizations are trying to influence through various methods of Orwellian mind control. The end result is people are so divided there is hardly any opportunity to disagree during the course of a conversation. If someone disagrees with anything you think or say, the quickest solution is to “cancel” them or “defriend: them. How sad is that? Lifelong family members and best friends are being torn apart by a manipulative media machine. People are suffering from cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias so badly that there is no room for them to even consider they could be wrong about their thinking on a certain subject, even if bombarded with a mountain of facts that prove they are, and they will only turn to news sources that confirm their bias. The end result is a Country and a World that is being literally ripped in two, all without even knowing that the real enemy is the devil himself, who only wants to deceive, distract and destroy as many souls as possible.

But God calls His followers to offer a different perspective, as much as is humanly possible. He wants us to be the Peacemakers, as Matthew 5:9 above alludes to, that try to remind people of the common purpose that we all share in helping one another to survive and to thrive in a world that is caught up in a battle that is taking place way above our heads, and in more intensity than we are even capable of grasping, as Ephesians 6:12 says “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” In other words, while CNN and Fox News are trading barbs to incite their viewers, they are missing the real battle between God and satan that is raging. So God needs His people to be the ones who are not argumentative, the ones who listen and learn, the ones who are shining the light of the Holy Spirit into the darkness that is all around. God wants us to be patient, to be kind, to be long suffering, and to be steadfast in our trust in Him and Him alone during these divisive and difficult days. Is it easy? Heck no! It is harder than almost anything else to be a peacemaker when everyone else is out for vengeance. But God will equip us if we ask Him. The hope is many will come to a saving faith when they realize that their anger and hatred is all being fueled by a silent enemy who wants to sow destruction and chaos. The light of God’s people can be the antidote for all their fear and our peace can hopefully show them the kind of love that they are really searching for, the only thing that can change their eternal destiny. That is why Jesus taught “Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” When we are God’s witnesses on earth, He is glorified and hopefully calm can replace fear and lead to peace. We are not each other’s enemies as the media has portrayed. Instead, we are each other’s brothers and sisters and we should treat each other in such a manner.

Prayer: Father God, help us remember that Your Kingdom is a Kingdom of light and love and peace. The enemy sows chaos and disharmony. Help us to be Your Peacemakers of the earth during a time of such division. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen!
