Weather report from heaven: Sunny and bright with an abundance of light, and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture:  “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”- Ecclesiastes 3:11

Insight: We live in a world of instant gratification, where short term goal setting and reflexive thought are in vogue. Long term goals and deep thought are out of favor. We want what we want and we want it now! But what does God say about all this? When we see things through His lens, we see a completely different viewpoint. He has made us for eternity, as the scripture above from Ecclesiastes 3:11 alludes to, and this has massive implications for us. What do I mean? I mean that all of the lessons we are being taught on this side of eternity are helping to prepare us for the long, long term. All the trials we encounter that are designed to grow our faith, all the times we come to the end of our rope are designed so we will rely more on God and less on ourselves.

This entire existence is like a pre-season game compared to the Super Bowl of eternity. God has to grow us into the likeness of His Son Jesus as much as possible in the time He has given us on planet earth so that we can be His ambassadors in eternity, when He brings the new heaven and the new earth into a new realm, as Revelation 3:11-12 and 21:1-4 prophesied: “I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.  The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name.” – Revelation 3:11-12. “Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.  I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.  ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”- Revelation 21:1-4

These verses really can make a huge impact in our lives by reducing the amount of short term pressure we put on ourselves to achieve certain goals and reframe our vision to one of long term valuable lessons we are learning and being taught as we move through life from one storm and trial to the next. We are not so time pressured when we view everything through an eternal lens. We don’t have to live a hamster wheel life, trying to keep up with a world gone mad, when we realize that God has a plan and a purpose for everything we encounter and endure in this life. We are truly children of an ageless and timeless God who has built us with eternity in our hearts. Relax, time is not short. In fact, it is very, very long. It is eternal.

Prayer: Jesus, help us to reframe our time lens to move from a hurried and frenetic life to one that has eternal meaning and purpose. We can slow down, because the lessons God needs to teach us take time.  If we are always learning, then we are always growing in our faith and in our trust of an Eternal God. Amen!
