Weather report from heaven: Sunny and bright with an abundance of light, and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture:  “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”- John 14:27

Today, let’s consider what it means to have supernatural peace despite our circumstances due to our relationship with Jesus. This world is crazy. There are times when it seems like the world is spinning out of control and evil is so pervasive it seems to be winning. One look at the evening news can keep you depressed or fearful for days. Sometimes it seems like the whole purpose of the media is to cultivate fear and hopelessness. However, we do have a way to find peace during the turmoil of life and that is to focus on Jesus. Jesus is our harbor in the tempest, a safe place for us to find restoration and calmness. When we truly know Him, we know love, peace, mercy, grace, forgiveness, and truth and that gives us rest.  We learn that this earth is not our final home, not the end of our story, and it is truly dying away. Our focus on Jesus allows us to glimpse a bit of eternity, and the peace that stems from knowing that He will make all things new and right in due time. This earth and everything in it will all fade away, but Christ and His people are built for eternity.

I think sometimes the best way to feel His peace is simply to meditate on the promises found in the Bible. The following passage from Revelations 21:1-7 speaks to how we can be assured that there is more yet to come, and that the chaos that swirls all around us will not be the end of the story. It will not engulf us. Soak in these truths and let His peace reign over you as a result of the coming glory. “Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.  I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.  ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.  Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.”

Prayer: Father God, thank you that we get to know your Son Jesus in a personal way through the gift of the Holy Spirit and that alone can grant us the peace that we all desire. To know Jesus is to have peace. His return is imminent and we can look forward with an uncontainable hope of the future glory that is to come. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen!
