Today’s weather report from heaven: Sunny and bright with an abundance of light, and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture: “I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.”- Malachi 3:6

Insight:  We’ve been looking at anxiety over the last few weeks and one of the things that struck me today about why I sometimes feel overwhelmed with anxiety, is how many things are in flux. There are so many changes taking place in so many areas of my life, many of which I have little or no control over. Instability and change can make us feel anxious. This is why the book by Max Lucado called “Anxious For Nothing,” has been so helpful to me during this season of change in my life. It reminds me of certain truths that are the bedrocks of our Christian Faith, in a way where I can practically apply them to my situation. They don’t always work instantly, or last as long as I would like them to last at times, but they do help me cope with anxiety at some level. When things are changing all around us, and we feel like we are losing control, it is important to find nuggets from scripture, and from other sources like this book, Max Lucado says “you may be facing the perfect storm, but Jesus offers the perfect peace.” What a great reminder that is. Then we see a scripture like Malachi 3:6 above that reminds us of God’s stability amidst the instability of our lives when it says “I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.” I can’t imagine how anxious I would feel right now if the One I trust my life with was Himself unstable and constantly changing. But Jesus is the Rock, the firm foundation that we can always trust in. He never changes even when everything all around us constantly does. Lucado says when we are anxious to “expect to see the God of ages fight for you. He is near, as near as your next breath.” What a great reminder that we are not in this battle alone. We have the One who is the most stable at our disposal, and He is near to us.

Prayer: Father God, thank You that in Your Son Jesus we have access to the one thing that never changes, that holds it all together, in a world that is constantly changing. We praise HIs holy name. Amen!
