Insight: Due to popular demand, and an overwhelming need for me as the writer to indulge in worship as well during these difficult days, this week we will return to lyrics that lift our souls and focus our attention on the goodness, strength and sufficiency of an all powerful God through worship. The very act of worship invites God into our lives, into our difficulties. It draws Him in, so we can sense His presence. It allows us to not minimize our problems, but instead to shift our focus from our problems to His sovereign ability to help strengthen us through our storms. We should never diminish our struggles, but we can worship the One who is bigger than the storms we face. We should lift our head in faith and look up, before we lash out in fear. We should follow the Creator and not the crowd.. He is bigger than any problem we face. But first we must surrender all things over to Him and admit how much we need Him. We must first invite Him in. Complaining pushes God away, but worship invites Him in, to draw near to us.

I love a song by Elevation Worship called “Do It Again.” This song illustrates how we must remember God’s faithfulness in the past in order to fight the battles in the present. We must draw strength from His past victories, where He showed up and showed out for us, sometimes just in the Knick of time. King David used this effectively in his battle with Goliath, when he remembered how God had reduced him from the paw of the bear and the mouth of the lion when he was just a little shepherd boy, working in isolation caring for his father’s sheep. This past memory fortified him for the battle with Goliath, where he could see it clearly as not his battle, but as God’s. Some of my favorite lyrics from this song go like this: “Your promise still stands. Great is Your faithfulness, faithfulness. I’m still in Your hands, this is my confidence. You’ve never failed me yet. Never failed me yet Oh, oh-oh. I’ve seen You move, You move the mountains, and I believe I’ll see You do it again. You made a way, where there was no way, and I believe I’ll see You do it again.”

These are powerful lyrics that can revive our soul, and turn our fears into faith. They can align us with God’s strength and turn us away from our limitations. Praising Him for His past faithfulness is a great way to endure any present storms of life.

Prayer: Father God, thank You for being so faithful to us and always showing up when we need You most. Many times that is when we’ve come to the end of ourselves and our solutions, and fallen on our face asking for your help. Let us not be too proud to ever ask for your help and admit how much we need you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
