Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture- “So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.”- 1 Corinthians 15:42-44

Insight: CS Lewis, who is one of my favorite Christians writers, has many famous quotes that cut right to the core of the Christian faith. One that really resonates with me, because it speaks to how we should view this temporal life and world in which we are presently living in, says “You don’t have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.” Most people today live backwards and  spend countless time trying to perfect their body. They pay lots of money to keep in shape, eat properly and look there best- all certainly good and worthwhile endeavors. But I dare say they comparatively spend very little time working on their souls, which is the very part of their being that is eternal in nature. The scripture above from 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 speaks to the fact that our current bodies are perishable, therefore they cannot inherit the eternal kingdom, but they will be raised imperishable as a brand new spiritual body. Our Souls will live on, as a kind of a black box recorder of our entire life’s history, lessons and experiences, and will be joined together with our new spiritual body for all of eternity.

Although this may sound a bit far-fetched it really shouldn’t. After all, our souls are made of energy and I learned in 3rd grade science that energy can’t be destroyed but can change its form, same as H2O turning to steam or ice, and so it should be no surprise our souls are meant for eternity and our bodies in this life are not. They are just tents, or housing units, for our souls. So while it is important to be healthy and take good care of the body, we should be much more intent on taking good care of our souls. How do we best accomplish this? Well, luckily the Bible teaches us that we do this by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior so we can be eternally cleansed from all of our sin ( Romans 10:9 -10 ) and be made blameless through the blood of the Lamb who was slain for us.( Philippians 2: 10-15 ) This life is just a pre-game warm up compared to eternity. Therefore, it makes sense as CS Lewis says, to realize we are a Soul, and we have a body, instead of the other way around. Our soul will far outlive these human tents we are currently lugging around in. Therefore, be good to your soul, and keep it free from the pollution of sin through the atonement offered by the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ.
