Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture- “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” – Ecclesiastes 3:11

Insight- Will it matter 100 years from now? When I was reading a book recently called “Chasing the Lion,” the Author challenges his readers to consider how they are spending their time from a benchmark of will it matter 100 years from now? His view is there is a big difference in spending your time vs. investing your time. In his framework, if you are investing your time than you are likely to be involved in endeavors that conceivably put others first and with God’s help could very well make a difference 100 years from now. If you are simply going through life spending your time, you most likely have an inward focus on comfort and self-gratification and it is doubtful that will have any impact 100 years from now.

It is an interesting mindset to look at your life from the impact it may have in the future. In the scripture above from Ecclesiastes 3:11 it is clear that God has embedded a long term focus in the human heart, one not measured by just a 100 years, but by eternity. Of course, we all want to live our life now, now worrying about tomorrow, and we live in a very time-pressurized society that makes it hard to sometimes even focus on tomorrow, let alone 100 years from now or eternity. But I have actual found that if we can shift our thoughts to the long term, it takes some pressure off of us now. By focusing on the difference our lives could make for someone or something else 100 years from now, we stop thinking of ourselves and our fear-based modalities and instead focus on putting others before us, which is faith based. It sounds a bit wonky, but I have been trying to be aware of this mindset more and more in the decisions I make about how to spend or invest my time. I believe it can make a difference in our quality of life, sub-consciously moving us from a fear-based to a faith-based lifestyle. By trying to make a difference today for someone who is fighting for their own tomorrow, our life in the present will become less stressful. Try it and see if it works for you.
