Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture: “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” – 1 Corinthians 13:13

Insight: “What the world needs now, is love, sweet love. It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of.” Songwriter Burt Bacharach. It seems like the world’s problems are so easily solved by just listening to what the Bible teaches us and then implementing it. In John 13:34-35 Jesus gives us pretty clear instructions on how to make the World a better place when he teaches “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” It seems so straight forward, so what has gone wrong? We as a collective humanity have forgotten about the power of love to heal, to bind, to build and to restore. We have all lost site of the big picture and have trade in love, peace and unity for hate, anger and chaos. The enemy is a sower of chaos, whereas God sows love. We have kicked God out of His rightful place at the center of society and replaced Him with more government, which leads to weightlessness, division and the chaos we see all around us. So what does that mean for us as individuals, and especially as Christians, living in the broken world of 2021? Should we just through up our hands in the air and say it is all meaningless? Absolutely not! It is not hard to show love. Any of us can do it on every day we have to live on this earth. A kind word or gesture can literally change someone’s life. Putting someone else’s concerns before our own can change that person’s life. Giving resources to those less fortunate can show love in the most practical of ways, be it with food, clothing, shelter or something else that is of need. Jesus tells us in Matthew 25:40 that this is not without its rewards in heaven as well, because helping those less fortunate is the same as if we are doing it for Him: “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Jesus taught us how to love selflessly and as His followers, we should  be eager to do the same.

Love is all around us if we are just open to bringing it forth in our own lives. We can’t worry about the things we can’t control, the only thing we can do is to illustrate the love Christ has shown us to others who are desperate to know it by how we treat those He puts in our path. We can bring a crescendo of love all around us that honors God and fulfills our calling if we just stop taking ourselves so seriously and instead take seriously the message’s God gave us from the Bible on how to live. 1 Peter 3:8 exhorts us “Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. 1 John 4:11-12 lets us firmly know that our love can have an impact and illustrate God’s true purpose for mankind when it says “Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete.” May it be so!

Prayer: Father God, help us to change the world wherever we are through an act of love today. Let us die to our selfishness and instead live selfless lives that emulate the way your Son Jesus lived and died in order to give us an example. Let your power of love be greater in our lives than the love of power, which only corrupts. We pray for an awakening of selfless love worldwide that reflects the virtues of Jesus Christ to a darkened world. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Amen!
