Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Bible verse of the day Psalm 127:1-2:  “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves.”

Insight:  As we continue to look at questions that challenge us to dive deeper into Scripture in order to find the answers we are seeking, today is an honest one that touches each of us at different times and in different ways at various times in our lives: What keeps you up at night? In other words, what weighs heavy on your mind, and causes you immense worry or restlessness? It could be a relationship that is on rocky ground, or a loved one who has made some bad decisions and is suffering the consequences. It could be a medical diagnosis that has rocked your world. But I dare say that most people lose more sleep over financial worries and distress than any other single issue. It is hard to sleep when you don’t have enough money in the bank to pay the bills, or when your house or business is on the brink of foreclosure. These are real life issues that are very tough to handle. But like all things, God has wisdom for us found in His Living Word, The Bible. In the verse above, we see God helping us gain proper alignment and perspective about our part of the equation when it comes to striving or straining to achieve results. God says give it to Him to handle. And you will be able to sleep more easily. Matthew 11:28-30 tells us to “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  One of my favorite scriptures to lean into when I am tired and weary is Isaiah 40:31 which says “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

I am not naive, and I realize none of these scriptures is going to pay the bills when your accounts are depleted, but they can provide strength, hope and encouragement when you may just need it most. There are countless other scriptures to cling to when you are so worried that you can’t sleep at night. Surrender it over to God, and let Him give you the peace you need for sleeping through the night.

Prayer: Father God, so many are suffering from all kinds of pain in the world right now. Depression and fear, anger and disillusionment are rampant. Help us to find the hope and strength we need to make it through the night in You and in Your Word in the Bible. We pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!
