Weather report from heaven: Sunny and bright with an abundance of light, and lots of singing and rejoicing.
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”- Ephesians 6:12-13
Insight: As we continue our look this week into what is really happening in the world right now, let us consider the spiritual battle that we are all in, whether we know it or not. We all know there is something very wrong in the world today, and often humanity appears to be imploding upon itself, but depending on what lens we see the problem through, we may disagree on exactly what the problem is. However, when we see things through the lens of scripture, we quickly see that there is an epic battle raging between God and the forces of evil and darkness in the heavenly realms. It has been going on for Centuries, but it appears to be ramping up and accelerating in velocity. There are some collisions taking place in the heavenly realms that are reverberating throughout the entire Universe.
One of my favorite songs is by INXS and it’s called Never Tear Us Apart. There is a lyric in the song that says “I was standing, you were there. Two worlds colliding and they will never, ever tear us apart.” Two worlds are colliding right now, good and evil, and they are creating a juxtaposition on the earth. The word juxtaposition means “the fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect.” The idea is when two things are side by side that don’t go together, kind of like a piece of fish and a scoop of chocolate ice cream on a plate, you notice. The contrast looks and feels awkward or uncomfortable. Have you ever been in a situation that just didn’t feel right in your life because the contrast was so great between two opposing forces? I had that experience once as a youngster at a Who Concert, where I was both exhilarated by the music, and the performance of the band, while also terrified by the violence all around me in the crowd. I firmly believe that the world we live in right now is experiencing a major juxtaposition between the forces of good and evil and it is as stark as night and day, the same as it was when Jesus walked the earth. Jesus told the jews who believed in Him in John 8:32 “then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Later, He told the Pharisees who were opposing Him in John 8:44 “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
I believe that the process of Jesus preparing His remnant church, His Ecclesia, for His return is being played out against the forces of darkness and evil of the enemy who is increasingly aware that his time of wreaking havoc is getting shorter and shorter. The enemy is ramping up his campaign of lies and deception on the human race in all kinds of preposterous ways, and the result is major collisions are occurring. In some instances people are being drawn to the light and love of Christ and in others the forces of evil are tearing down and destroying lives, and the end result is many people are finding themselves in seemingly hopeless situations. Things are happening that are outside of our control, and we feel helpless. The battle being waged above our pay grade is fierce and it is raging. We must cling to the promises of scripture during these difficult times and promote the hope and security that is found in the Word of God. John 10:27-28 says “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” In other words, similar to the lyrics above from the INXS song “Two Worlds Colliding” nothing can ever tear us apart when we are safe in the love of Christ Jesus.
Prayer: Father God, I pray for you to open the eyes of people everywhere to the fight that is raging all around as the forces of good and evil collide. This is a spiritual battle that needs to be won on our knees in prayer. This is not some Star Wars movie, it is an eternal battle for our very souls. Please send your light through the love of Christ to as many people who are able to receive it right now. Collectively call people to prayer for the battle is on. We pray this in the powerful and eternal name of Christ, who is the First and the Last, the Alpha and The Omega, the Beginning and the End. Amen!
