Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture-  “But my people have exchanged their glorious God for worthless idols. Be appalled at this, you heavens, and shudder with great horror,”declares the Lord. My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”- Jeremiah 2:11(b)- 13

Thought of the Day-  How many times have we traded in our glorious God for worthless idols? It is a question that for me takes me to a place that is not easy to visit. It is the land of pride and rebellion where I think I know what is best for me rather than accepting the fact that what God has for me is always the best thing. In this land of pride and rebellion, I have made some of my biggest mistakes. To quote from Jeremiah 2:13 above it is where I have turned from the “spring of living water to broken cisterns that can’t hold water.”

What does this practically look like in my life and maybe in yours? It is simply when we turn to worthless idols and think they can somehow satisfy better than the Living God can. This has been for me at various times about money, power, prestige, affirmation, possessions, drugs, alcohol, sex and much, much more. It is me putting me at the center of my life and taking God out of His rightful place there. God alone can provide a deep level of lasting peace, joy and contentment in our life that nothing else can. These other things are all worthless idols, temporary impostors, and broken cisterns. They look good and may provide some relief in the short term, but eventually they destroy us. The enemy knows how to tempt us- he always shows us the worm, but never the hook. Only when we turn back to the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, the God of Genesis 1:1 can we ever find what we truly need. His Word is filled with the promises that take away our fears, give us stability in an unstable world and provide us with the true meaning of our self worth that is not circumstantial or ever changing. It is built on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ. No amount of money and no drug can ever provide us with that contentment. We need to stop seeking other, lesser things and simply accept that what He offers is the best, and nothing else even comes close.
