Weather report from heaven: Sunny and bright with an abundance of light, and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture- “God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.”- Exodus 3:14

Insight: One of the things that I find very helpful in my faith walk is to look back at the Ancient names that the Jewish people had for God and apply it to my current situation. This reminds me that God has many different attributes and characteristics that are meant to provide the help we need in our life journey for exactly what we need, when we exactly need it. God is bigger than our wildest imaginations. He is Omniscient ( All Knowing ) Omnipotent ( All Powerful ) and Omni-Present. ( Everywhere at once ) He cannot be, nor should He be, shrunk down to our life size box we try to fit Him into so we can better understand Him. However, He does want us to know Him and His ways in a most personable manner.

The greatest name ever recorded for God is the great I Am. El Shaddai, in Hebrews, the all sufficient one. When Moses encountered God at the burning bush, he asked what His name was. God replied: “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” God made it clear to Moses that He is eternally present. He has always been, He is now and He will always be. This name of God also speaks about His eternal presence with His people. He is present to help us, comfort us, guide us, and so much more… His presence never leaves you, and He will always be with you. That is the greatest comfort we can ever find, and we learn it from the very name of God: I AM. When God revealed His name, He said: ‘I AM ALWAYS WITH YOU!’

One of the ways we can practically apply this to our lives is to call on His name. Here is an example that can help us in many different situations. God is also Yahweh-Rapha- The Lord our healer. “By His stripes we are healed” -Isaiah 53:5 NKJV declares in the Bible. Jesus Christ died to give you life. Not only was God the healer in the Old Testament, but Jesus Christ revealed the healing heart of God for all of us, more than ever. We all need healing at some point in our life, be it emotional, relational, mental or physical. It is nice to be able to call on this specific name of God in Christ Jesus as our ultimate healer. He has way more power than any Doctor ever will, and He has way more wisdom to heal you in His perfect way than any scholar ever will. Call on the Great I Am, The EL-Shaddai, the all sufficient and existential One for power, strength and stability, and then call on Yahweh- Rapha for healing in your time of need.

Prayer: God we thank You for how great and awesome You are, and how many attributes You have, and yet how much You desire for us as Your children to be able to intimately know You and to be known by You. We are grateful we get insight into the names the Old Testament believers had for You, so we can apply them to our life situations for maximum impact. Amen!
