Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture – “But godliness with contentment is great gain”- 1 Timothy 6:6.

Thought of the day-  If you asked most people if they wanted to have contentment in their life, everyone would answer with a resounding yes!  But if you asked them if they are truly content in their life?, most would answer with a resounding no. Why is it the case? I believe it is because we have lost the way to find contentment. We are looking for it in all the wrong places. When we walk closely with God as the center of our life, we find that His joyful presence shoots up from the center of that relationship and it rubs off on our lives. We quickly realize that contentment is not based on our circumstances, but rather based on our faith in God. Psalm 96:4 tells us that, “great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.” ” Before King David became King, he was often running for his life away from Saul, the jealous King in power at the time. David was often living in grave peril, was involved in very dangerous circumstances like living in a cave, and was often wondering why God was allowing these circumstances in his life. But David always trusted in God to rescue him, and it is why even in immense peril He could say “But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content.”- Psalm 13:12 and Proverbs 19:23 says “The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.”

So what has happened? Why have some many people lost their ability to feel contentment? I believe it is because we have lost the definition of contentment as described above in 1 Timothy 6:6 and have replaced it with an illusion that busyness=contentment. If you ask people how they are doing, many will answer with “ I am busy,” or give you a list of things they are busy with.. But busyness can often rob us of contentment because it crowds God out of our life’s center. In many cases busyness=distracted, which in turn leads to emptiness. Most people attach contentment to their circumstances, but our circumstances often change, which means we have no lasting contentment. God on the other hand, never changes. Hebrews 13:8 promises that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Contentment is possible in this life for long periods if and only if we put God first in our life. Everything else is shifting sand and will make it hard to find the lasting peace we all long for.
