Scripture: “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?”- Psalm 8:3-4

Insight: We can learn so much from the Biblical Heroes like King David, who is the only person in the Bible ever referred to as “a man after God’s own heart,” Acts 13:22. God led David through a myriad of different circumstances that tested his faith, grew him, challenged him and led him to become the greatest King of Israel and the human bloodline out of which Jesus himself was born. Therefore, we just should pay close attention to the life of David recorded in the Bible and try to learn as much as we can from him and apply it to our lives in a practical way. We will study some of the Scriptures over the next 30 days that David wrote and see how his life is a great teaching moment for us today. David wrote half of the Psalms, which serve as a journal for his faith walk with the Lord.

In today’s Psalm 8:3-4, we see David had a great habit of simply praising the Lord for His Creation and for all that He had done. David noticed the beauty and majesty of God’s Creation all around Him. He took it all in, and His response was simply to praise and worship the One who had made it all. In Psalm 8:1 David says “Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens.” David often found time to simply praise God out of awe and wonder. When David considered all God had done in creating the world, he was often in awe that He was still so mindful of us as His people  Psalm 8:3-4 gives us a glimpse into David’s heart about his love and respect for God when he penned “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?

David set a good example for us throughout the Bible that we need to take time to simply praise God, and to be in awe of His power and the glory of His Creation. The whole Universe cries out in praise to God, and when we do so as humans, it glorifies Him and gives us energy as we show proper respect and a reverent fear for what the Lord has done. His Universe is so amazing and yet He calls us “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession,” in 1 Peter 2:9 That should blow us all away, because I know that many times that is not how I feel about myself. I see my failures, my weaknesses, my sinfulness and my shame, and think to myself that there is no way God could love me. But that is a lie from the pit of hell, and that is why David knew, and we must know, how important it is to praise the Lord for how He sees us, which is much loftier than how we see ourselves. In fact, he sees each one of us as His Masterpiece, an individual as unique as a snowflake, and we are held in even loftier position than the Universe that cries out in praise to the Lord day and night.

Prayer: Father God, we are in awe of all You have done in Your Creation, and we are so thankful that You love us so much that You reserve special praise for us. How can we respond with anything other than awe and praise and worship for You, our Creator. Amen!.
