Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture- “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”- Psalm 37:7

Insight: In this hectic world, one thing I think we all would agree we need more of is solitude. Alone time. Time to reflect and restore and renew. Jesus himself often sought time alone, to be with the Father in one on one conversation and to understand from a humanly perspective what His best path would be in having the greatest impact and to begin building the foundation of God’s Church on the earth. The crowds would tire Him out, as would the debate back and forth about who He really was, His Kingdom and His calling. The opposition to His message and the critics and skeptics wore on Him. Sound familiar? Much like the Social Media jungle we live in today, this type of constant banter and contentiousness is exhausting. That is why we need to seek solitude. It is essential for our soul to heal.

Theologian and Professor Dallas Willard said, “until solitude and silence have had their effects, our minds will likely continue to be focused on wrong things, or on good things in an anxious attitude of trying to dominate them.” How true that has been in my life. When I get no deep rest for my soul, I often fling myself into action and often with the best intentions, but without the limitless power of God behind me that comes only from being in His presence and hearing His clarion call to action, my results are usually without great impact. When I don’t immediately get the outcome I expect or desire, my likely response is to get anxious, and to try and dominate it and coerce it into an outcome of my liking. That rarely works, but it does leave me exhausted. Being anxious about anything over a long period of time will lead to burnout. It shows a lack of trust in God to help you with or through a situation. I have been guilty of this at various times with my finances, with my relationships, with my career expectations. In every situation, the only solution that works is solitude. Alone time with God. Everything else leaves me more anxious and helpless. God knows how to speak to us in a way that we most need, but in order to hear Him, we need to be still and rid ourselves from all the noise of the world. We need solitude!
