Weather Report From Heaven: Sunny and bright, with an abundance of light and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture- They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their ancestors and the statutes he had warned them to keep. They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the Lord had ordered them, “Do not do as they do.” 2 Kings 17:15

Insight: I recently watched the documentary called “Social Dilemma” and it was an eye opener. To hear some of the creators and early investors of the largest social media companies in the world talk about the unintended consequences of what they had created was fascinating. In short summary, the machines are taking over, are out of control, and they have made us the very product that they are controlling to sell to advertisers based on our media consumption and behavioral habits. We are being digitally stalked!  They know everything about us, and they know how to trigger certain emotions and elicit responses. It is like we are Puppets, and the machines are the Puppet Masters. What have we done to ourselves?

Well, in a nutshell, we have tried to find happiness anywhere but from the only One source where we can find it- in relationship with God. Just like the Israelites turned away from God and turned to worthless idols in the Scripture above, we also have been guilty of the same thing. We have invented machines that allow us to interact in amazing ways, anywhere in the World, and in an instant but in very impersonal ways. We have traded in deep relationships with each other for an instantaneous and impersonal “like” or emoji symbol, because we are just too busy to invest time into those relationships. We have taken the precious part of life, interacting with and helping other people, and mostly made it worthless by interjecting machines into the fray, causing us to become more isolated and less relational. We have turned from trusting in God, to trusting in technology. We have replaced the One God, the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, with google. C.S.Lewis was a devout Atheist most of his life, until he encountered the Living Christ in the last years of his life. He wrote profoundly on the impact that relationship had on his life. These quotes below are just as meaningful to us today as they were to him over 55 years ago: 1.”God can’t give us peace and happiness apart from Himself because there is no such thing.” 2. “To walk out of God’s will is to step into nowhere.” 3. “I believe in Christianity as I believe the sun has risen; not because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”  May we turn back to the One who is precious and worthy of all of our praise, and away from our man made worthless idols, before it is too late.
