Insight: Because of popular demand, we are continuing this week with more song lyrics that give us great hope and put things into proper perspective. The simple act of worshipping the Lord is a mood elevator and needs to be an everyday occurrence as a Christian. The fact is when we sing, when we pour out our praise to the Lord, we feel better. This week we will continue to look at some of my favorite Christian song lyrics that lift my mood and reset my focus on the strength, love and grace of our God. Today, let’s consider some lyrics from the song “Oceans,” by Hillsong United. It is a song of great hope, knowing that God is always with us, even during the hardest circumstances of our lives. He is with us when life takes us way outside of our comfort zones and when we are naturally fearful. When we deal with heartache and disappointment, He stays with us and carries us through, even when our human nature is to give up. He supports us and strengthens us when we are too weak and depressed to do it on our own. Some of my favorite verses go like this: “You call me out upon the waters, the great unknown where feet may fail. And there I find you in the mystery, in Oceans deep, my faith will stand. And I will call upon your name, and keep my eyes above the waves. When Oceans rise, my soul will rest in your embrace, for I am yours and You are mine. Your grace abounds in deepest waters, your sovereign hand will be my guide. My feet may fail and fear surrounds me, but you’ve never failed and you won’t start now. These lyrics are filled with truth, power and life. We will all need to rely on God’s strength alone at many times in our life, and remembering God’s faithfulness to be with us in the storms of life through lyrics like these can give us the strength we need. We simply cannot make it through on our own, so it is important we internalize the strength and promises of God found in these song lyrics. Life will take us into deep Oceans where our feet may fail, but that is where we often find the abundant grace of God that not only sustains us, but grows our faith way stronger than it was before.
Prayer: Jesus, You are the only One we can truly count on when the Oceans of life rise and the storms take us deeper than we’ve ever been before. When we are way outside of our comfort zones, that is when You become so real to us. Thank You Lord Jesus that You don’t leave us when we need You most, but You actually meet us in the middle of our storm and carry us safely to the other side. In Your name we pray. Amen
