Weather report from heaven: Sunny and bright with an abundance of light, and lots of singing and rejoicing.

Scripture- “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!”- 2 Corinthians 5:17

Insight:  Because of popular demand, we are going to continue this week with more song lyrics that give us great hope and put things into proper perspective. The simple act of worshipping the Lord is a mood elevator and needs to be an everyday occurrence as a Christian. The fact is when we sing, when we pour out our praise to the Lord, we feel better. This week we will continue to look at some of my favorite Christian song lyrics that lift my mood and reset my focus on the strength, love and grace of our God. Today, let’s consider some lyrics from the song “Beautiful Things,” by Gungor. It is a beautiful song of renewal, redemption and rebirth, how God takes us out of the ashes and regrets and pain of our life and creates new beginnings in our life, makes us new through redemption and a fresh start, unshackled from our past burdens, just like the Scripture above from 2 Corinthians 5:17 says. One of my favorite parts of the song goes like this: “All this pain. I wonder if I’ll ever find my way? I wonder if my life could really change at all? All this earth. Could all that is lost ever be found? Could a garden come up from this ground at all? You make beautiful things, you make beautiful things out of the dust. You make beautiful things, you make beautiful things out of us. All around, hope is springing up from this whole ground. Out of chaos life is being found in you. You make beautiful things, you make beautiful things out of the dust. You make beautiful things, you make beautiful things out of us. You make me new, you are making me new. You make me new, you are making me new. Making me new.”

I love these lyrics because they honestly speak to the doubt and pain we all experience at various times in our life, but also how God works to restore us from that pain and how He makes us stronger than before as He “makes us a new creation in Christ Jesus.”- 2 Corinthians 5:17.  I was and still am amazed at how Jesus takes our burdens upon himself and sets us free from those chains and that pain and brokenness that used to bind us. I can’t explain it, and I don’t think I even need to because I feel it, and it’s so real still to this day how Jesus took 25 years of pain and abandonment and brought a whole new beginning. He lifted a burden, took away a need to run from the pain, and led me into a new and better life, one filled with grace and forgiveness that set this captive free. Jesus can do beautiful things in your life as well. It is never too late. Out of the ashes can come a beautiful resurrection life that makes all things new in Him.

Prayer:  Jesus, You are the great healer and redeemer, our savior and defender. Thank you that You alone can make all things new when we surrender all things to you. Our past mistakes don’t have to define us. You have a better plan for us, a whole new life in You surrounded by your perfect love. Let us receive it and be grateful for it. It truly is the only thing that can set us free. Amen!
