Scripture- “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”- Matthew 7:7

Insight: The Scriptures can sometimes be hard to process, hard to understand, hard to believe, and hard to apply to our lives. They can challenge us down to our very core. But I have continually found that they are full of life giving wisdom and treasure if we simply take the time to unlock their eternal power. They are not just words on a page, they are God’s breath on a page, as 2 Timothy 3:16 says All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” So how can we learn to apply the life-changing lessons found in them to our lives? One way is to ask tough questions of God, questions that all of us have at one time or another if we are being honest. Questions that help reveal what our beliefs really are. I think this is no different than when we are curious about learning more about any subject. Questions help to unlock new learning and potentially new ways to look at things and hopefully new discoveries as well. This has served me well in my 20 years of being a Christian. When I get stuck, or don’t understand something, I pause and ask a tough question of God, and then I dig deeper into what the scriptures say to find the answer. The scriptures provide all the answers, they are the Truth in the world, but sometimes we need to dig them out to be able to make them applicable to our own lives.

Here are some examples of questions we might all ask or ponder at various times, and I hope you ask them if you need to, and then begin to search for the answers found in the scriptures. Tough questions lead to breakthroughs when the answers come, maybe in an unexpected way. I have found life changing answers to many of the questions below by pressing into scripture. I hope you do as well.  Does God really care about me and my situation? Can God really fix this? Will God show up for me? Is God real? Does God still do miracles today? Can I feel God in a tangible way, even though I have made such a mess of my life? Can God really forgive me even though I keep sinning and making the same mistakes? Is Jesus the only way to God? What does eternal life mean? What will Heaven be like? Why does God allow so much pain and brokenness in the world? Is God really love? What does it mean for the Holy Spirit indwell me as a believer? Does God really know me? How does God see me, when I don’t see Him? Why does life seem so unfair at times? What is happening to our world right now and why isn’t God doing anything about it? Where are you God? Does following God make my life easier? Is this life hopeless?

I am sure there are many more, and I encourage you to ask them of God and then search for the answers. One thing I have found is that God is not distant, and He wants to know you in an intimate and personal manner. He is actively pursuing you right now. (Revelation 3:20 )That is a big reason why He sent Jesus to earth, so that He could be close to His Creation, and understand us more, and so we could see how much God loves us more. Keep asking the tough questions, and then keep seeking the answers found in scripture. The Bible is  a priceless treasure, nothing else can ever compare.

Prayer: Father God,  you tell us to seek You and we will find You. ( Matthew 7:7 )  Help us to find the answers to the questions we have in scripture, in prayer and in meditation. We pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!
