Scripture- “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.” – Hebrews 1:3

No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.- John 1:18

“I and the Father are one.”-John 10:30

“that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.  I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.”- John 17:21-24

“ will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.”- John 17:11

3 in 1 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” Matthew 28:19

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”-1 John 5:1-5

“And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17

“While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”- Matthew 17:5 – Also Mark 9:7 and Luke 9:35

“Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.”- 1 Corinthians 12:3

“We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.”- 1 John 5:20

Insight:  I engage in a lot of online discussions with people from different faiths. This includes Muslims, Jews, Atheists, Agnostics, Hindus and Budhists. The #1 comment I hear by far that trips them up regarding the Christian faith is how can Jesus be God? How can a man be God? Some even pronounce that this is blasphemous to even say that a man could be God. I understand their confusion. The Godhead 3 in 1 can be hard to get our arms around. Father, Spirit and Son is a lot to digest, no doubt. However, I always point them back to scripture and I trust God to eventually work through their hearts to open their eyes to the truth. It does no good to engage in heated debates.

The sample of scriptures listed above is simply a good starting place. I have found that people are eager for the truth, and this sampling allows them to contemplate God’s word in a new way. I have seen many follow up with very detailed questions and a real yearning for more understanding about Jesus and the Christian faith. The single biggest thing I can give them is grace. That’s the least I can do after all, because that is what Jesus has given us who believe. I also pray that they will come to understand that Christianity is different from all other religions because of what Jesus did for us on the Cross, and how His atoning sacrifice  ( Romans 3:24-25 ) paid our sin tab in full. Because of the Son, we don’t need to work our way to God through good works or moral behavior. He came down to us, to set us free, and we just need to accept His grace through our faith, as Ephesians 2:8-9 proclaims. As Christians, we don’t need to rely on ourselves anymore- we are truly powered by the Son!

Prayer: I am so thankful for Jesus that we are alive and full of life because He was willing to die for us. We don’t need to strive or strain anymore, we simply need to remain in Him. We are truly powered by the Son. John 15:5 reminds us of this: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”  Amen!
